Michael watched her leave. He sat down in the grass next to his sword and sighed. "Why me?" he mumbled, pulling at the grass in upset. "Why can't I just be the normal kid? Why do I have to muck everything up?"

"Hey, Dad, if you're... if you're listening, a little help might be nice. Just to get me started? Please?" Michael mumbled, then tipped his head up to face the sky. "What did I ever do to suck this badly? I just wanted to be a normal kid..." he whispered.

Michael waited for a minute or two but then shook his head with a small, harsh laugh, and unbuckled his scabbard, dropping it beside his sword before he got up and walked away.

"I like you just the way you are." a warm voice spoke. "Why do you want to learn?" The God stood before one of his children and tilted his head slightly.

Michael stopped and stared, chewing on his lip. "I just- don't want to die. I don't want to be a loser. I don't want to be the wimpy sidekick," he mumbled softly. "I can't be what I want to be, so why not be what other people want me to be?"

Michael hugged him tightly. "I know I should hate you for never talking to me before this," he mumbled. "But I don't have it in me. And I've always thought, if I doubted, he's a god, he's looking after the world. He trusts that I can look after myself. So I guess what I'm trying to say is, you're my dad, I love you, and I'm sorry I doubted."
