Dean walked up and peeked his head into the barrack. "Kauri?" he called out quietly.

Kauri sat up, hair ruffled madly. "Dean," he grinned, standing up and making his way over.

Seeing Kauri smiled, a smile stretched across the boy's lips. He moved forward and lifted his hands to cup Kauri's cheeks before offering a gentle kiss.

"Well, I presume he's smaller than you, I wouldn't be surprised," Kauri murmured. "Has he met you properly? He may just be shy, like Sam."

"If I did, I didn't mean to. I was just watching. He was smiling, Kauri. Sam was smiling." he said.

"He was probably just startled. Some people can be jumpy like that, especially when they're exploring themselves." He leaned in to kiss Dean's cheek. "It's great that he was smiling."

"You're welcome," Kauri smiled. He looked up brightly as his sister entered, greeting her in Māori. Aruhe smiled, chatting back easily, sitting on her brother's cot.

Dean turned his head and smiled, pushing the hair from his face. "Hi. Aruhe, right?" he asked.

Aruhe nodded. "And you are Dean. You make my brother very happy." She just grinned innocently at her brother as Kauri muttered something in Māori.

Kauri was staring at the ground, muttering to himself, but his head jerked up when his twin poked him sharply. "Hi," he grinned, a little embarrassed.
